CNN story: PRIME EXAMPLE of how the media fails us

Thu Jul 17, 2008 at 11:26:14 PM PDT

THIS CNN article by Alexander Mooney is a prime example of how the "main stream" media is utterly failing America:

Pelosi said the oil industry is not aggressively exploring large amounts of federal areas already leased to them and approved for drilling, including 33 million offshore acres and 68 million acres in the lower 48 states. She has sponsored legislation calling on oil companies to increase their production in those areas before they are allowed to go into the offshore areas currently banned.

Pelosi "said".

NO NO NO, Alexander Mooney, you ignorant, incompetent ass.

Not "Pelosi said" - IT IS A FACT that the oil industry is not aggressively exploring large amounts of federal areas already leased to them!  IT IS A GODDAMN FACT!

Larry Johnson's Fox News Flip-Flop

Mon Jul 14, 2008 at 08:54:15 PM PDT

Lately, Larry Johnson and his PUMA brigade cannot get enough of Fox News.  Neil Cavuto, in particular, has suddenly in their eyes become one of the most honest and forthright news people evah!  They love him because he continues to invite the PUMA malcontents on night after night -  because he believes in them - not because he's a rabid, lying partisan who wants to destabilize and split the Democratic party!  Oh no, no, no!  He's just extremely fair and balanced!!  Larry and the PUMAs have not, I repeat not, sold their souls to the devil or anything like that.

But what's this?  Oh noes! How embarassing for Larry!  He's featured in the movie Outfoxed slamming Fox News!

Gordon Smith's Record on Veterans' Issues

Tue Jul 08, 2008 at 11:42:06 PM PDT

John McCain recently demonstrated how freely he will lie about his record on veterans' issues.

He will lie right to a veteran's face, in fact.

What about his Oregon BFF, Senator Gordon Smith?

Smith has nothing to be proud of when it comes to his voting record on veterans' issues, either.

For example, Smith has an abysmal 40% rating from Disabled American Veterans.

James Dobson and showering with boys

Mon Jun 23, 2008 at 10:49:41 PM PDT

Every time I hear the name James Dobson, this utterly repellent quote unfortunately leaps to mind:

Meanwhile, the boy's father has to do his part. He needs to mirror and affirm his son's maleness. He can play rough-and-tumble games with his son, in ways that are decidedly different from the games he would play with a little girl. He can help his son learn to throw and catch a ball. He can teach him to pound a square wooden peg into a square hole in a pegboard. He can even take his son with him into the shower, where the boy cannot help but notice that Dad has a penis, just like his, only bigger.

-James Dobson

Ew.

Stop saying "Roe"! Start saying "Griswold".

Sun Jun 08, 2008 at 07:59:44 AM PDT

I'm not sure why this issue has been neglected in the pro-choice debate.

Roe v. Wade is only one case in a line of cases based on a Constitutional right of privacy.

If Roe is overturned on the basis that there is no Constitutional right of privacy, then all the cases decided on that right will fall.

This includes Griswold v. Connecticut.  Prior to the Supreme Court's ruling on Griswold, the State of Connecticut made it illegal for anyone - including married couples - to use birth control.

Do Americans realize that if Roe is overturned, and there is no Constitutional right of privacy, states will be able to make birth control illegal again?  Even for married couples?

Our new message must be:  When McCain says "Roe" - he means "Griswold" too.  John McCain wants to make birth control illegal.

Blogger, HRC discuss bringing young kids to DNC R&B meeting

Tue May 27, 2008 at 09:08:55 PM PDT

Although the relevant Clinton campaign conference call occurred on May 17, 2008, I wanted to highlight it today - given the direction coming down from the Obama campaign that no pro-Obama protests should occur at the May 31, 2008 DNC Rules & Bylaws committee meeting.

Hillary has taken the opposite approach - encouraging raging supporters to show up by the bus load, to scream and shout, and in one case...Hillary herself seemed to approve one prominent blogger's plan to bring her young children to the rowdy protest.

The audio of the conference call is here.  Hillary was on the call personally.  It was an "on the record" call, and was widely linked by blogs in both camps.

Slightly past half-way through the audio, you will hear the following exchange between Hillary and one of her prominent blogger-supporters:

Pick a target, freeze it, polarize it

Can a college research paper really be the Rosetta Stone to deciphering a candidate's politics or character?

That is the question raised in this MSNBC article about Hillary Clinton senior Wellesley thesis on Chicago community organizer and controversial figure Saul Alinksy.

The MSBNC article states that, when Hillary was first lady, the Clintons demanded and received Wellesley's compliance in sequestering Hillary's thesis.  All Wellesley gradauates' senior papers are normally available for public viewing.  But, for a time at least, Hillary's was not - at the Clintons' order.  The MSNBC reporter found out that the thesis can now, however, be viewed if you want to put in the time and effort to go to Wellesley and read it.

The revealing information uncovered by the MSNBC article gives an insight into Hillary's character and tactics, and seems to explain why the Clintons would want the thesis to remain hidden.

8/25/07: Clinton DNC operatives strip FL of all 210 delegates [UPDATED 2X]

Wed May 21, 2008 at 09:02:26 PM PDT

Hillary has known all along what the rules were and her campaign strategist, Harold Ickes, and her operatives on the DNC rules committee, were directly involved in the stripping of Michigan and Florida's delegates:

On Aug. 25, when the DNC's rules panel declared Florida's primary date out of order, it agreed by a near-unanimous majority to exceed the 50 percent penalty called for under party rules. Instead, the group stripped Florida of all 210 delegates to underscore its displeasure with Florida's defiance and to discourage other states from following suit. In doing so, the DNC essentially committed itself, for fairness' sake, to strip the similarly defiant Michigan of all 156 of its delegates three months later. Clinton held tremendous potential leverage over this decision, and not only because she was then widely judged the likely nominee. Of the committee's 30 members, a near-majority of 12 were Clinton supporters. All of them—most notably strategist Harold Ickes—voted for Florida's full disenfranchisement. (The only dissenting vote was cast by a Tallahassee, Fla., city commissioner who supported Obama.)

Hillary's Pledge Not to "Participate"

Tue May 20, 2008 at 10:44:13 PM PDT

Hillary is a lawyer - what are the chances that she did not understand the meaning of the pledge she signed not to "participate" in certain primaries?  She now argues that "participating" does not mean claiming victory, claiming votes or claiming delegates.  She can do all these things without "participating".

Does this hold up under an analysis of the language of the pledge itself?

First, the relevant part of the pledge:

THEREFORE, I (Hillary Clinton), Democratic Candidate for President, pledge
I shall not campaign or participate in any state which schedules a presidential
election primary or caucus  before Feb. 5, 2008, except for the states of Iowa,
Nevada, New Hampshire and South Carolina, as “campaigning” is defined by
rules and regulations of the DNC.

"Some ingenious argument"

Fri May 16, 2008 at 12:45:12 PM PDT

Yesterday, nasty, jerkish frat-boy George took a cheap, cowardly swipe at U.S. Senator and Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama:

Some seem to believe we should negotiate with terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along. We have heard this foolish delusion before. As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: "Lord, if only I could have talked to Hitler, all of this might have been avoided." We have an obligation to call this what it is – the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history.

Now, I can understand why George can't go near a word that includes anything like the word "genius".

In a fantasy world where you could actually talk to George Bush, using small words, perhaps you could make him understand that the negotiation and communication process he mocks was actually a fundamental part of Ronald Reagan's cold war strategy.

Prescott Bush and the Nazis

Thu May 15, 2008 at 06:58:35 PM PDT

Apropos of today, according to Fox News:

Documents: Bush's Grandfather Directed Bank Tied to Man Who Funded Hitler

Friday , October 17, 2003

WASHINGTON —

President Bush's grandfather was a director of a bank seized by the federal government because of its ties to a German industrialist who helped bankroll Adolf Hitler's rise to power, government documents show.
Prescott Bush (search) was one of seven directors of Union Banking Corp. (search), a New York investment bank owned by a bank controlled by the Thyssen family, according to recently declassified National Archives documents reviewed by The Associated Press.

Fritz Thyssen (search) was an early financial supporter of Hitler, whose Nazi party Thyssen believed was preferable to communism. ...

Did Hillary plagiarize tonight's speech from Obama?

Tue May 13, 2008 at 09:04:27 PM PDT

We all remember Hillary's accusations of  "Change you can Xerox".

Is it time to accuse Hillary of stealing lines - but not from one of her co-chairs, from her opponent:

Hillary tonight:

For me, this election isn't about who's in or who's out or who's up or who's down. It's about the common threads that tie us together - rich and poor, young and old, black and white, Latino and Asian, Democrats, Republicans, and Independents. We are united by common values. We all want a better world for our children, and we want the best for our country. And we are committed to putting a Democrat back in the White House.

Oregon not important, says Clinton Campaign

Fri May 09, 2008 at 08:16:38 PM PDT

Today came further confirmation that Oregon is not an important part of the Clinton campaign's strategy for victory.  From the Oregonian:

Wolfson and the Clinton's chief strategist Geoff Garin spent and hour Friday walking reporters through the argument for nominating Clinton. It basically boils down to this: Clinton has won the states that matter - battlegrounds like Pennsylvania, Ohio and Florida -- and Obama has not. Clinton, they say, has a better chance of winning those same states in November against McCain than does Obama.

The subtext, of course, is that the states Obama carried or is expected to carry, such as Oregon, aren't as important because any Democrat is likely to win them in the fall. Only Clinton is in a position to win the states that are likely to determine the election, they said.

Oregon is not important - the Clinton campaign could care less about ousting Gordon Smith and keeping this purple state transitioning toward blue.

Hillary can't use a coffee maker...

Thu May 01, 2008 at 10:35:50 PM PDT

Hillary does not know how to use a coffee maker.  Who is the elitist now, Hillary?

Wyden, Clinton won't campaign against Gordon Smith

Wed Apr 30, 2008 at 11:52:35 PM PDT

In the great tradition of Debbie Wasserman Schultz, we have high-profile Democrats refusing to campaign against Republicans in Oregon.

Sen. Ron Wyden has made it clear that he will "go along to get along" and not campaign against Oregon's junior Republican Senator, Gordon Smith.  According to Josh Kardon, Wyden's chief of staff:

"Just as Sen. Smith has supported the Republican nominee in both of his last two races, Sen. Wyden will support the Democratic nominee for 2008, but he won't campaign against Gordon, and he will continue to work with Sen. Smith on the state's behalf for the next two years," Kardon said

The additional twist here is that Josh Kardon is also the chair of Hillary Clinton's Oregon Steering Committee.

Bill Clinton mocks the locals in Oregon

Sun Apr 27, 2008 at 04:20:38 PM PDT

Bill Clinton is a real class act.  He rolls into Oregon, runs 2 hours late on schedule, and then when he does speak, he chooses to slam a local Democrat and Reed College professor to try to score some cheap political points:.

Earlier in the day, Clinton played up to his audience, derisively reading a quote from a Reed College professor suggesting that it was "old politics" for the Clinton campaign to send the former president through a series of small towns.

"When Hillary's campaign announced that I was going to come here and to other small communities, some of the political pundits in Portland said we were wasting our time," Clinton told the crowd in Junction City. "It really matters what happens in rural America."

Clinton rep. says pledged delegates don't matter

Wed Apr 23, 2008 at 07:06:07 PM PDT

There is a fast and furious discussion going on at BlueOregon right now in response to a bullshit-laden post by Josh Kardon, chair of the Clinton Steering Committee in Oregon.  The focus of his Dana Perino-style nonsense:  Barack has missed opportunities to seal the deal, so Hillary is better!

When challenged in the comments to lay out the course for Hillary to achieve the nomination, Paddy McGuire, a member of Hillary's Oregon Steering Committee, responded:

Iraqi lawmaker to U.S.: "Back off"

Sun Apr 20, 2008 at 07:55:03 AM PDT

CNN:

Iraqi lawmaker to U.S.: Back off or 'all options are open'

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- An Iraqi lawmaker warned the U.S. military Sunday that if it doesn't immediately end its attacks on Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr's Mehdi Army, "all options are open to us."
